In the auditions, the following singers have been accepted into the TYY choir:
The artistic board wishes to thank all the participants and regrets that only a fraction of the applicants can be accepted into the choir in order to preserve the balance of voices.
TYY Choir has room for new singers!
Auditions will be held in autumn on Wed 12th and Wed 19th of September at 17:15 in Arcuanum. More information on auditioning will be available closer to the beginning of the autumn semester.
The choir in the autumn
We're just halfway through the choir's 25th anniversary. In the autumn, October, the choir will combine its strength with Savolaisen Osakunnan Laulajat from Helsinki, who is celebrating its 80th anniversary. The two choirs will be performing on a so-called capital city tour on the weekend in Helsinki and in Turku.
The anniversary will end with the choir's traditional Advent Concert together with the Collegium Musicum Turku orchestra.
Fantasia - 25th Anniversary Concert22 September 2013
The TYY Choir’s 25th anniversary culminated at its Fantasia concert on Saturday, 5 May 2012 at 15.00. The concert was a wild combination of richness, craziness, tradition and the flight of imagination. Like its name, the concert was pure fantasia!
From Toivo Kuula to the 90s — Quartet Concert with TYY Choir, Brahe Djäknar and Florakören20 September 2013
The TYY Choir will be having its 9th annual Quartet Concert along with student choirs from Åbo Akademi University. The singing groups of Florakören and Brahe Djäknar will be along for the ride. On the programme will be a wide range of song, sweet ballads from long ago, tough male choral music, the latest hits with choral arrangements and also the most cliché boy bands!

The TYY Choir and the orchestra Kampus sinfonietta will once again be performing together for Christmas. This concert will be on Saturday, 10 December 2011 at 18.00 at St Michael's Church. The concert will be conducted by TYY Choir conductor Mikko Sidoroff and Puolalamäki musiikkilukio lecturer Timo Lehtovaara.
For your listening pleasure, two grand pieces by Felix Mendelssohn Batholdy, Hör mein Bitten and Vom Himmel hoch will be performed by the choir and orchestra together with soloists Anna Immonen (soprano) and Martti Anttila (tenor). In addition, the orchestra and choir will perform their own pieces: Kampus sinfonietta will perfom pieces by Edward Elgar, the TYY Choir will sing both new, Finnish music by Juhani Komulainen and conductor Mikko Sidoroff and gentle music by Eric Whitacre.

TYY Choir Spring concert16 September 2013
The annual Spring Concert of TYY Choir will be held exceptionally early this year on 15 April. This time the traditional Finnish part of the programme will be complemented by Swedish music from the romantic period.
Venue: Old Academy Building (between Hämeenkatu and Turku Cathedral)
Time and date: Friday 15 April 2011 at 7 pm
Tickets: €12/€5 (students). In advance from the choir members or by sending an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org. Tickets will also be sold at the door.

It was that time of the year again! The traditional TYY Choir Quartet Concert featured a line-up of both well-established, successful and even recorded singing groups and new ones, of all sizes, and even those formed just for this event. Some of the music for this concert included:
- Italo schlager
- Eurovision glamour
- Steady heavy metal
- Thundering basses
The concert also featured the gentle male voices of Kosteat Kosijat (a.k.a. Soaked Suitors), and to balance that out, the small but strong-voiced female group Slavonic Tractor, ringing out fresh, hit melodies of Bulgarian music
Tickets were sold at the door for €10/5 (students). Tickets were also available from the choir members.
80 member Northwestern College Choir performs in Turku13 September 2013
The TYY Choir and Turku Conservatory Chamber Choir will host an American student choir from St. Paul, Minnesota from 27 to 29 May.
As one of the stops on its Baltic European Tour, the Northwestern College Choir will perform in Turku, at Michael's Church on Friday 28 May at 19.00.
On the programme will be 20th Century American and European religious classical music and spirituals. The choir's esteemed conductor is music educator Timothy Sawyer.

Lemmennosto: Spring Concert of the TYY Choir, Friday 14 May 201012 September 2013
At the Old Academy Building of Turku, the full choir will perform compelling songs based on Kanteletar and captivate the audience with Italian madrigals. Included amongst the songs based on poetry from Kanteletar will be pieces by Jean Sibelius and Toivo Kuula as well as an arrangement of world music pioneer Hedningarna and a love spell by Värttinä, which the concert's name is based on. The madrigals will include works by Cipriano da Rore and Jacques Arcadelt, as well as two pieces by Claudio Monteverdi, which a specially selected choir quintet shall perform.
Choir Auditions Spring 201310 September 2013
Spring auditions for the choir will be held on Thursday, 10 January 2013 at 5:15 PM in Arcanum. Please prepare a short, simple song (e.g. a children's or folk song) and be prepared to do simple singing exercises in front of the Artistic Board.

TYY Choir and Kampus Sinfonietta Advent Concert9 September 2013
The Student Union Choir of the Univeristy of Turku (TYY Choir) and symphony orchestra Kampus Sinfonietta joined forces for this year's Advent Concert.
The concert took place at Turku Cathedral, 11 December 2010 at 19.30, conducted by Markus Yli-Jokipii and Mikko Sidoroff.
The heart of the performance were the cantatas by Dieterich Buxtehude "In dulci jubilo" and "Das neugebor'ne Kindelein".
Both the choir and the orchestra featured their own repertoires. The TYY Choir presented two parts of the Francis Poulenc Christmas motet series as well as Dimitri Bortjanski and Ahti Sonninen. Kampus Sinfonietta gave its interpretation of W.A. Mozart’s Symphony No. 14. And of course, the most beloved carols were also featured in the programme.
Tickets were available in advance from choir/orchestra members, and they were also sold at the door before the concert.

TYYn kuoro paljastaa: Vapusta vappuun 2010-20116 September 2013
The TYY Choir reveals it’s very first “nude” calendar! This special wall calendar, Vapusta vappuun, starts from Vappu 2010 and ends on Vappu Eve 2011. There’s also a Vappu countdown so you can check how many there are left ‘til Vappu. The calendar days and months are in Finnish, English and Italian. Holidays and other important dates are in Finnish and English, so you won’t miss out on any special days!
The price of the calendar is €10 and you can get one from a choir member. The profits from the sales will go towards the TYY Choir’s trip to Italy for a concert and choir competition in October 2010.
Quartet Concert at Sibelius Museum5 September 2013
The TYY Choir (= The Student Union Choir of the University of Turku) had its traditional Quartet Concert at Sibelius Museum on February 6, 2010 @ 6.30 pm. Various singing groups of 2–10 persons performed a diverse mix of songs and styles.
Advent concert in Michael's Church in Turku4 September 2013
The TYYn kuoro choir held a concert in Michael's Church on Saturday 12 December 2009. This year in its traditional Advent concert the choir performed in six languages and the melodies represented six different nationalities.
Slavonic Tractor successful in Tampere2 September 2013
Slavonic Tractor won three golden stamps and a prize of 1500 euros at the Tampere Vocal Music Festival at the beginning of June. Congratulations!
Spring Concert on 9 May1 September 2013
TYYn kuoro choir's traditional spring concert was held on 9 May 2009 in Turku at Akatemiatalo (Rothoviuksenkatu 2). The concert introduced a river theme with pieces from Mikko Heiniö (Pikavuaro Turkku), Lauri Mäntysaari (Kehtolaulu), Erkki Nurminen (Lullaby from the series Songs from Hitchhikers' Galaxy), Henryk Gòrecki and Michael Tippett.
This was the last concert of the choir with Markus Yli-Jokipii as the conductor.
The Choir in Helsinki30 August 2013
On 8 March 2009, the TYYn kuoro choir will be performing in Helsinki at the Sibelius Academy Concert Hall (Pohjoinen Rautatiekatu 9). The concert is part of the studies of Markus Yli-Jokipii, the choir's conductor, in choir conducting at the Sibelius Academy.
Besides TYYn kuoro, there will be performances by the vocal group Sibelius-Akatemian vokaaliyhtye, Kampus Sinfonietta orchestra and Turku Conservatory Chamber Choir. The concert takes place on Sunday 8 March at 6 p.m., admission is free.
New Christmas album from TYYn kuoro28 August 2013
This is the cover of TYY choir's new Christmas album Valoa, that will be published in November. The cd includes among others all of Jean Sibelius' Christmas songs arranged for the first time for a mixed choir. Valoa is the official Christmas record of the Christmas City in 2008.
Valoa - Advent Concert on Sat 13.12.26 August 2013
TYYn kuoro released its Christmas album entitled Valoa, which means 'light'. The choir shedded some more light by giving a Valoa concert, where it sang some of the best hits from the album, including five Christmas songs by Jean Sibelius and Missa Brevis in G major by Mozart. The choir also sang some new repertoire from Joonas Kokkonen, Toivo Kuula, Orlando di Lasso and Jan Sweelinck.
Valoa-concert was held on Saturday 13 Dec at 7.30 pm at Turku Cathedral.
Slavonic Tractor victorious in Pärnu!25 August 2013
Slavonic Tractor has won the Grand Prix and a golden diploma at Pärnu international choir festival's folk song competition 31.5.2008 in Estonia. The Grand Prix was 2008 euro. The choir congratulates!

TYYn kuoro (the Student Union Choir of the University of Turku) and its vocal ensembles gave a concert on Friday, May 9th 2008 on the theme "The sauna is on fire!" The concert was in Akatemiatalo Banquet Hall (Rothoviuksenkatu 2,see map).

Historic performance of the academic cantata Elämän Päivät21 August 2013
Tyyn kuoro continued its anniversary year celebrations with a co-production with the student orchestra Kampus sinfonia. On November 21st 2007 the choir and orchestra performed two cantatas by the Finnish composer Leevi Madetoja. The works in question were Elämän päivät and Planeettojen laulu and the first one had not been sung since its premiere because the score had gone missing. Both of the cantatas have been composed for the University of Turku in the 1920s.

Tyyn kuoro celebrated its 20th Anniversary year in 2007 with an Anniversary Concert and a grand gala.
TYYn kuoro successful at choir competition19 August 2013
TYYn kuoro and smaller groups consisting of members of the choir made a clean sweep in the choir competition in Coleraine, Northern Ireland in April 2006. The choir won the mixed choirs' category and the 9-woman ensemble Slavonic Tractor won the Ladies choirs' category. The female quartet Kanske conquered the Light Entertainment category. Finally, the Best Overall category, consisting of winners of all categories, was announced to be won by "our friends from Finland - TYYn kuoro!"
