Elisa Huovinen graduated as a choir conductor from Sibelius Academy with excellent grades in spring 2016. She studied with professors Nils Schweckendiek and Matti Hyökki and also one year in Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre with professor Tõnu Kaljuste.
Nowadays Huovinen is the chairman of the Finnish Choral Conductors’ Association and artistic director to three high-leveled choirs: Turku University Choir, Wiipurilaisen Osakunnan Laulajat student choir in Helsinki and chamber choir Addictio who has won several prizes in international choir competitions. Huovinen is also often invited to conduct choirs of high standing such as Somnium Ensemble, EMO Ensemble, Tapiolan kuoro and Dominante. Abroad, she has worked with Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir and Estonian National Male Choir. Huovinen also regularly educates herself in international masterclasses with renowned conductors and choirs (e. g. Paul Hillier & Ars Nova Copenhagen, Frieder Bernius & Stuttgart Kammerchor). As a singer, Huovinen has worked in Savonlinna Opera Festival Choir and Helsinki Chamber Choir.
Huovinen is the winner of the first Finnish Choral Conductors’ Competition (Tampere, 2018) and the winner of Gheorge Dima International Music Competition for choir conductors (Cluj-Napoca, 2018). She has been awarded the conductor’s prize in Cracovia Cantans International Choir Competition (Krakow, 2016) and she was the finalist of 8th International Competition for Young Choral Conductors (Torino, 2015).
