Morienti – Vincenti
Two concerts performed by Turku University Choir and Wiipurilaisen Osakunnan Laulajat
Turku University Choir and Wiipurilaisen Osakunnan Laulajat (student choir from Helsinki) perform together in two concerts that carry the name Morienti – Vincenti. Concerts are held both in Turku and Helsinki just a week before All Saints’ Day when we remember our beloved ones who have passed away.
The concert program consists of pieces covering themes such as sorrow caused by death, the problematic nature of suffering and the realisation of justice. These pieces include among others the motet Warum ist das Licht gegeben dem Mühseligen by Johannes Brahms which focuses on the sufferings of Job, Eric Whitacre’s monumental piece When David Heard in which king David mourns after his dead son Absalom, and Ola Gjelo’s Unicornis Captivatur whose medieval text ties death and suffering together with victory and life: weakness becomes strength and struggles finally turn into victory.
